Our greatest urgency is to help as best we can the large number of homeless children
that are an inevitable consequence of job losses and home foreclosures.
See OurBetterAngels.info. William Laney was interviewed on BBC8-TV on March 9. Here's his interview on YouTube in four parts: Part I , Part II , Part III , Part IV . |
"Beloved Community" is an association of faith communities in Palm Beach County who believe that the issue of homelessness is important and who want to understand it better and help in whatever way is appropriate. We acknowledge that it is a very complicated issue, with dynamics of housing affordability, family income, substance abuse and mental instability, social service requirements, and major underfunding. We're not aware of anyone who knows the right solution for this problem today. We also feel that there is immense misunderstanding with regard to who the homeless are and whether or not helping them can bring people back to productive lives. But, we give this urgency because there is reason to believe that in Palm Beach County there are two or three thousand children who are homeless and who are not getting the foundation for productive lives. We believe in family values which include the importance of parenting, values orientation, and taking responsibility by all who are involved.
To find common ground among our many faiths and in appreciation of its history, we hope that The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County will accept our affiliation. We will be accountable to a management committee which will be selected from among our member congregations.
"Beloved Community" may explore other issues for educational purposes, but the only issue on which it is advocating social action is helping homeless people and families and supporting related programs.
