Dear Jim,
There is a letter that I've written many, many times in my mind. It's possible that I've never mailed it, I guess because it seems presumptious, or less than enough. But whether or not I can say it well, I really want to say it.
I'm very appreciative of two very important gifts you've given me.
The first is a vivid lesson in holding fast to what should be, or our dreams, or bliss, or whatever it is that will evoke the best from us and from others.
The second gift is your having invited me to some of the most satisfying work I have had the opportunity to undertake.
I am deeply grateful. I think the best way to thank you for these gifts would be for me to extend these same gifts to others as best I can. I will do so. You and Patty are in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Carl House
